    Description

Perhaps the most distinguishable feature of Santo Domingo jewelry is the use of heishi made of shell or stone.   This necklace is mostly serpentine with turquoise, pipestone, jet and shell sprinkled throughout.   The name serpentine originates from the similarity of the texture of the rock to that of the skin of a snake.  Minerals in this group are greasy looking and slippery silky feeling and are slightly translucent.
    The heishi, although smooth
and of uniform consistency, will have variations among the beads. There will be a variation in color and thickness or there might be a slight
imperfection in the shell or bead. This adds to its unique appearance.
This necklace is 32" long and has been strung on traditional string, no closure, slip it over your head.  The cones and chain are sterling silver.
Never out of style, Southwest jewelry is an investment in enjoyment to last a lifetime.
    Measures 32" long
    Heishi measures 3 mm  round
